Tasks and Responsibilities:

The System Engineer will have the opportunity to contribute to a variety of challenging Space programmes and projects, supporting the definition, development, integration and validation of complex systems and services. The role requires a strong system-level perspective, combining technical expertise with the ability to manage interfaces, requirements and multidisciplinary activities throughout the project lifecycle.
Working within international and multidisciplinary teams, the System Engineer will contribute to the translation of mission and customer needs into coherent system requirements and architectures, ensuring technical consistency and alignment across the different engineering domains. 
The position offers broad exposure to different Space systems, technologies and project environments, with the opportunity to contribute to both established programmes and innovative initiatives.

Key Responsibilities  

  • Bid & Technical Engineering: Contribute to the preparation of high-quality technical proposals for European Space programmes and projects, defining system concepts, technical baselines, architectures and engineering work packages in line with customer and procurement requirements.
  • System Architecture & Interface Design: Define and maintain system-level architectures, functional and physical interfaces, interface control documentation and relevant data models, ensuring the overall technical coherence and interoperability of complex systems and services.
  • Requirements & Compliance Management: Elicit, analyse, manage and trace system and technical requirements throughout the project lifecycle, supporting compliance assessments and ensuring alignment with applicable customer, regulatory, security and technical standards.
  • System Development & Integration: Support the definition, development and integration of system components, subsystems and operational functions, coordinating technical interfaces and ensuring effective integration across different engineering domains and technology areas.
  • Technical Verification & Validation: Plan and support system integration, verification, testing and validation activities, ensuring that technical solutions and delivered capabilities meet the defined requirements and performance objectives.
  • Technical Coordination & Stakeholder Management: Interface with engineering teams, industrial partners, subcontractors, technology providers and institutional stakeholders, coordinating technical activities and consolidating system-level information to ensure consistency across the overall programme or project.

Required Qualification and Experience:

  • University degree in electrical, electronic, telecommunications, aerospace or industrial engineering, or a related discipline
  • Bid & Project Experience: Experience in systems engineering, with a track record covering both tender preparation/procurement and hands-on project implementation within space or defense programs
  • Domain Expertise: Extensive knowledge of satellite communication ground segments, secure IP networks, pooling-and-sharing architectures, and satellite service provisioning frameworks.
  • Standards & Tools: Familiarity with systems engineering frameworks and lifecycles (e.g., ECSS standards or equivalent), as well as requirement management tools (e.g., Polarion, DOORS or equivalent).
  • Methodologies: Familiarity with systems engineering frameworks and lifecycle standards (e.g., ECSS or equivalent)
  • Fluent written and spoken English.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work with multidisciplinary teams, suppliers and subcontractors in English.
 
The following skills are not mandatory but will be considered a distinct advantage:
  • Knowledge and practical experience with Agile methodologies and the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe).

Work location:

Spaceopal headquarter (Munich, Germany).
It could be necessary to participate to meetings at European locations.
